I had no idea this movie even existed. When I read the title, I thought to myself, “What’s next? A movie about a killer wig?” Surprisingly, not only does it exist, but the plot is surprisingly good, and the overall production is impressive given its premise.

Genre and Overview

First of all, the film is a horror movie, though not extreme. It’s filled with suspense and has its bloody moments, but they aren’t as plentiful as you might expect. What makes the film powerful is the situation and the excellent performances from the cast. “The Wig” (yes, a wig) tells the story of two sisters: one is terminally ill with cancer, and the other is mute—not due to genetics, but I won’t spoil any more details for you.

Plot Synopsis

The older sister has cared for the younger one for a long time. Upon leaving the hospital, she gifts her a long wig since the younger sister has lost all her hair due to treatment. From that moment on, strange things begin to happen, particularly a change in the personality of the sick sister, who feels better while wearing the wig. Various issues from the past and present of these sisters are triggered, and their home is shrouded in absolute sadness due to the events that have occurred in recent years.

Cast of “The Wig” (2005)

  • Chae Min Seo (Bad Couple, You Don’t Know Women, Vegetarian) plays Soo Hyun, the younger sister who is terminally ill with cancer. She tries to live her last days by “creating happy memories,” but everything changes once she puts on the wig.
  • Yoo Sun (Horse Doctor, Take Care of Us Captain, Singles Game) is Ji Hyun, the older sister. An artist who works with glass, she is mute and lives to take care of her sister. She buys the wig to make her younger sister feel better and is deeply depressed at the thought of losing her, which has led her to separate from the man she loves, an art teacher named Ki Suk.
  • Bang Joong Hyun (Seducing Mr. Perfect, Bridal Mask, She is Wow) portrays Ki Suk, Ji Hyun’s ex-boyfriend. He is a passive art teacher who appears unwilling to help anyone. While he may seem irrelevant at first, his role becomes significant as the story unfolds.

Final Thoughts

Despite the seemingly strange premise, believe me, it makes perfect sense and becomes more engaging as the movie progresses. It may not change your life, but it will keep you on the edge of your seat, eager to find out where everything leads and why. I highly recommend it!
