Revenge, corpses and corporate crime—Lee Beom Soo leads a dark comedy ride full of absurd twists.

After diving deep into melodramas and revenge thrillers, I was craving something lighter—but still with a bite. That’s when History of the Salaryman introduced me to the incredibly charismatic Lee Beom Soo. Naturally, I had to dig deeper into his filmography… and I struck gold with Over My Dead Body (2012).

This underrated gem of Korean cinema is a fast-paced, black comedy that mixes science, crime, and sheer absurdity. The story follows Baek Hyun Chul (Lee Beom Soo), a scientist who exposes illegal activity within his company. In response, the company’s president steals a critical microchip and disappears—only to end up dead after a suspicious accident.

What follows is a series of chaotic events. Hyun Chul teams up with Han Jin Soo’s daughter (his sunbae and fellow whistleblower who’s now hospitalized) to pay the mounting medical bills. Their brilliant plan? Steal the president’s corpse.

Yep. It’s that kind of movie.

But the real fun comes with the ensemble cast:

  • Kim Ok Vin (Thirst, Flower and Petal) as Han Dong Hwa
  • Oh Jung Se (I Miss You) as an oddball morgue guard
  • Ryoo Seung Bum (Doomsday Book) as a lovable scammer
  • Jeong Man Sik (The King of Dramas) as the dead president’s secretary
  • Bae Jeong Nam (The Berlin File) as his loyal assistant
  • Four over-the-top NIS agents
  • And a delightfully bizarre gangster duo, one played by Go Chang Suk (Ad Genius Lee Tae Baek)

With so many unpredictable characters, the film becomes a rollercoaster of black humor, suspense, and laugh-out-loud moments. Clocking in just under two hours, Over My Dead Body is perfect for fans of Korean comedy with a darker edge—think The Quiet Family meets Catch Me If You Can, but weirder.

Final Verdict

If you’re looking for a break from emotional heaviness, but still want a clever plot and top-notch acting, give this one a shot. Over My Dead Body is strange, smart, and seriously funny.
